The Joy of The Lumineers

Hey again,

I am right now listening to The Lumineers' self titled album on Spotify and I realised just how much I love it! I discovered The Lumineers along with the rest of the world because of that E-On energy advert featuring 'Ho Hey'.  Little did I know how good they were!

I have delved further into The Lumineers and realised how beautiful this album is.  I have two keen favourites: Flowers in Your Hair and Stubborn Love (I really like folk music that incorporates violin - especially tuneful violin!).

Anyway, just a quick blog post but if you haven't already GO AND LISTEN TO THE REST OF THEIR ALBUM!!!

Off to listen to The New Basement Tapes now!

See you soon!

People annoy me and considering A-levels

Evening all,

Why are people so damn annoying?  Sometimes i just want to murder all the people on this earth (except me, obvs!) as they are so annoying and get me angry.  And anger is not something I like to feel unless I can take it out on something, and right now I cannot.

AAAAAARRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHH

That didn't even help.

Despite the fact that today was a good day lessons wise some people just really did the job of driving me up the wall.  And people have been doing this a lot recently, and its really starting to tick me off because I just want to punch said people in the face, and I can't.

Anyway, rant over.

I now look to the future and to Sixth Form and my A-levels.  I have been doing a ton of thinking about which A-levels I want to do, and while it is quite a way off in the future, it's been bugging me.
So, I have decided on my perfect for subjects for A-level and thought no more of it.  If you're wondering, or if you're not, they are:

 - History
 - Politics
 - German
 - French

If all goes well with History, German and French at GCSE (we don't do politics at GCSE unfortunately) then this will most likely be my A-levels.  But, I am considering Geography too!

I'm going to leave the deep future considerations till later and go and be productive.

Au revoir!
L

PS Don't let people get you down.  Just remember you have the power to do away with the people that are annoying you and you will feel brilliant.  But don't actually do away with the people that are annoying you.  That is wrong and very certainly sightly illegal!

The Pointlessness of English Literature

Hello all!

Today I was in English Literature, one of my least favourite lessons, and I realised just how pointless English Literature actually is.
I always knew that the lesson of English itself was pointless, since English is my first language and I speak thousands of worlds in it everyday and people seem to understand what I'm on about most of the time, I reckon I'm doing ok at it and don't need lessons.  Our wonderful Government think not.  I had never really encountered English Literature until Year 10, aka GCSE year! And now I have had many lessons in it I still don't see the point.  So here is my rough guide to why English Literature lessons are completely pointless.

1) I can read.  And therefore I can read stories, thank you very much!
2) I don't care if this word had deep and dark true meanings.  It's just a word.
3) I can enjoy a good story without over analysing it and understanding what a simile or metaphor is.
4) Analysing stories ruins it.

I'm around 99.8924% sure that every British teenager will agree with me on this.  That sure.  And the other 0.1076% of British teenagers will go on to do it at A-Level and end up being an English teacher because they actually enjoy ruining the magic of stories and over analysing things that don't need over analysing.  And if that's your dream... sorry but I hope you enjoy it if you do end up as an English teacher, but please try and understand your kids when they look like they can't be bothered to do anything except murder you in their lessons.

Anyway, if you agree, please comment down below.  Even if you disagree, please comment down below!

Thanken you very much!

Recent Song Addictions!

Hey!

I have recently been hooked on a few different song and I thought I would share them with you.

I was, for a while, addicted to nearly every song by The Strypes, one of my favourite bands.  Their second album, Little Victories, had more of a modern feel than the first and was very different, but very good too!  I was basically hooked on all of the songs from that album, but especially Eighty Four and A Good Night's Sleep and A Cab Fare Home.

Then I went through a phase of being addicted to The Lumineers' Flowers In Your Hair and played it over and over and over and consequently The Lumineers' self titled album is on my birthday list!

Now I am addicted to The Yawning Grave by Lord Huron! Such a good song, with beautiful lyrics. It is quite a simple song, but it is effectively so.  I bought Lord Huron's most recent album Strange Trails about a month ago and didn't really get into it until about a week ago and now I see just how amazing it is!

And so I leave you from my favourite verse of The Yawning Grave!

"I know the rain like the clouds know the sky,
I speak to birds and tell them where to fly,
I sing the songs that you hear on the breeze,
I write the names of the rocks and the trees..."

Thanken you!

The Strypes Gig!

Good Evening!

As you may well know, I love a band called The Strypes!
They are a rhythm and blues rock band who I went to see in Manchester when they played The Ritz on the 26th of September. They are so good on CD and even better live!  The experience was just amazing!

Myself and my friend got right to the front of this amazing venue.  Admittedly, being right up next to the barriers with a rowdy crowd of one thousand behind you wasn't brilliant as we kept getting pushed up against the railings and squashed a bit, but it was well worth it for the view!

The concert kicked off with the support band, The Mighty Stef, who weren't bad but the sound wasn't exactly brilliant (from the speakers I mean) and also my ears hadn't yet accustomed to the loud noise!
When The Strypes came on I was screaming, along with the other thousand in the venue.  They played an amazing list of songs, mainly from their second album Little Victories but also a few from their first Snapshot and a few from their 4 Track Mind EP.  All of the songs top quality (by now my ears were well adjusted).

At the end of the gig, I bought a t-shirt and myself and my friend queued to get it signed by The Strypes themselves! When we reached the front I got my t-shirt signed and she got her ticket signed for a friend of hers.  Each of the lads in the band were extremely polite and Josh was the most talkative, even complimenting my t-shirt (thank you!)

Great night in all and I just hope I can go and see them again!

Anyway, thanks for reading.  Hope you enjoyed!

Welcome to my blog!

Hello there.

As it says in the title, welcome to my blog!
This blog will be filled with my thoughts and musings, as well as funny stories and what's happened recently.  Feel free to read it, but don't feel obligated!

You would probably before beginning to read said blog would wish to know something about the author.
Well, my name is Libs, but call me L.  I have an age but I'm not telling you.  I live somewhere on the planet (and by this I mean Planet Earth, obviously...).  I love Scotland, Music, Crime (not doing it!), my friends and family and many other things.

The name of the blog: "A Life in Black and Blue" refers to my two favourite colours and the colours that I wear most often, so I basically spend all my life in black and blue bar school.  I also think the darkness is fascinating, and that if there was a bit more blue in everyone's day, the world would be happier!

Anyway, thank you for reading this introduction.  Let us move on to the real fun! (Joy(!))

Thanks again.
